Let’s talk about Woodland Bottoms

Area residents fear inclusion in urban growth boundary could bring hundreds of unwanted homes.

The planning commission recently voted to recommend that the city council expand the urban growth boundary in the area adjacent to the city south of Horseshoe Lake between the railroad and Lewis River down to Wyman Road.

According to the city’s most recent plan, Woodland will need an additional 1,292 housing units by the year 2036. That is about 80 new houses per year, for the next 17 years. Imagine the traffic? Not just at traffic lights, imagine the traffic at the check out line in Safeway? Starbucks? Gas Stations? On average, that is about 5,000 more people.

Do we have the right to say no? The retail growth would explode. What about water? Sewer? Garbage? Jobs would open up, bringing more money into our homes, is it worth it?
